Vintage U87 microphones are renowned for their presence, but they can also become harsh at high volume. Our UA Bock 187 improves on this classic design with a larger transformer, a redesigned circuit, and an original “Fat” mode that boosts frequencies between 10 Hz and 400 Hz. The result is increased dynamic range and presence, along with a warmer sound when recording vocals, guitars, and other instruments.

With the UA Bock 187, David Bock revisits the legendary U87 microphones that he analyzed and repaired during the two decades he spent in some of the world’s most famous recording studios as chief technical engineer. The UA Bock 187 is handcrafted in UA’s Custom Shop in Santa Cruz, California. It gives you the iconic sound of one of the studio world’s greatest reference microphones.
